Report: Qualifying offers raised to $15.8 million

It's going to cost teams a little extra to issue a qualifying offer to their free agents this offseason.

The value of a qualifying offer has been raised slightly from $15.3 million to $15.8 million, according to Eric Fisher of the Sports Business Journal.

The value is determined by averaging the highest 125 contracts league wide.

Teams can offer their pending free agents a one-year, $15.8-million deal within five days of the conclusion of the World Series. Players have seven days to either accept or reject the offer. Should the player reject the offer, the team is guaranteed a compensation pick in the 2016 draft if the player signs elsewhere before the draft. No player has ever accepted a qualifying offer.

Any player acquired mid-season is not eligible to receive a qualifying offer.
