Report: Cardinals to hire former reliever Randy Flores as director of scouting

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals will hire former reliever Randy Flores as their new director of amateur scouting, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The 40-year-old will reportedly begin in his new position on Sept. 1, and will be responsible for overseeing the team's draft approach. He spent five of his eight major league seasons with the Cardinals, earning a World Series ring in 2006.

Flores will be taking over the position vacated by Chris Correa, who was fired following the 2015 draft after admitting he had hacked into the Houston Astros database.

The incident is still being investigated by federal authorities, while the Cardinals are undergoing an internal investigation into other allegations that staff had accessed the Astros' information
