Jake Arrieta was named the National League Pitcher of the Month on Thursday after a dominating stretch that included throwing the 14th no-hitter in Chicago Cubs history.

Arrieta's impressive August saw the right-hander fan 43 batters in 42 1/3 innings, while fashioning a sparkling 0.43 ERA over six starts. He capped his historic month by holding the Los Angeles Dodgers hitless at Wrigley Field on Sunday.

Cubs teammate Kris Bryant was also recognized for his contributions in August, securing the NL Rookie of the Year award after going deep seven times and slashing .330/.422/.620.

The hot-hitting Andrew McCutchen, meanwhile, took home Player of the Month honors for his recent surge at the plate. McCutchen hit a robust .348/.470/.609 with five homers and 18 runs scored for the wild-card leading Pittsburgh Pirates.
