Dodgers send Puig back to DL with hamstring injury

Yasiel Puig's frustrating season took another lousy turn Friday when the outfielder was placed on the disabled list, roughly 24 hours after aggravating a right hamstring injury suffered last week.

Puig, who missed nearly two months earlier this season with a strained left hamstring, was removed from Thursday's game after pulling up lame as he legged out an infield in the top of the ninth inning.

Puig remarked, though, that the pain he experienced Thursday was worse than the original injury, while manager Don Mattingly refused to speculate as to how much time the 24-year-old will miss.

An All-Star for the first time last season, Puig owns a career-worst .764 OPS (109 OPS+) through 77 games in 2015, but hit .333/.375/.600 in his previous 12 games before landing on the disabled list.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled infielder Jose Perez from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Acquired from the Atlanta Braves ahead of last month's trade deadline, the 21-year-old is 1-for-6 with a walk in two games with the Dodgers and hit .293/.316/.378 with 33 stolen bases in 118 games in Triple-A this season.
