Rays' Moore to be optioned to Triple-A

Bob DeChiara / USA TODAY Sports

Matt Moore's due for some fine-tuning in the minors, as his return to the big leagues after Tommy John surgery hasn't gone so well.

The Tampa Bay Rays left-hander will be optioned to Triple-A Durham, the team announced after Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox.

Moore lasted just three innings, allowing nine hits and six earned runs to fall to 1-2 with an ugly 7.61 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in five outings.

"I am discouraged and disappointed the way the results have (gone)," Moore told reporters. He added, "It's not fun right now ... But I still believe in myself."

Moore, who underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2014, was dominant during his last full season in 2013, posting a 17-4 record with a 3.29 ERA while averaging 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

The move to Triple-A will be effective Monday.
