Flores, still with Mets, hits emotional walk-off home run vs. Nationals

Let the tears flow freely, Mets fans. They're joyful ones this time.

Wilmer Flores, two days after crying on the field because he thought he'd been traded, hit a 12th-inning walk-off home run as New York beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 in Queens on Friday night.

The Mets are two games behind the Nationals in the National League East after the big win.

It was Flores' third walk-off hit of the season (though his first career walk-off home run), tying him with Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson - who recorded his third Friday night, too - and Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro.

It's been some week for Flores, and what better way to cap it off than by being the hero?

"Unbelievable," he aptly put it after the game. "I was surprised. These fans are great. It felt good."

"That's one of the best walk-off homers I've ever seen," said teammate Michael Cuddyer. "I'm sure every emotion a human being could have, he had."

"This kid can't forget this night," added manager Terry Collins. "I'm sure he's glad 4 o'clock came and went and so are we."

The Internet, of course, went crazy when the baseball left the yard, never to return:

There is definitely crying in baseball, as any Mets supporter will remind you. And that's just fine.
