Brandon Phillips collects career-high 7 RBIs with multi-homer game vs. Pirates
Brandon Phillips enjoyed a career night Thursday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Cincinnati Reds second baseman went 4-for-5 with a pair of three-run homers and amassed a career-high seven RBIs in only six innings of work before taking a seat with the game well in hand.
Phillips, who posted his 11th career multi-homer game, became the first player since RBI became a statistic in 1920 to record four hits, two home runs, seven RBIs and two stolen bases in a game, according to Elias Sports.
"I don't really pay attention to that stuff. I was very surprised myself," Phillips told reporters. "I could have sworn Willie Mays, Hank Aaron or Rickey Henderson, some of those guys probably did it. But I don't know where y'all get these stats from. Y'all probably just digging in the box trying to find something, and I'll tell you one thing: I'm glad y'all really told me, because I'm really feeling myself right now. History baby."
Phillips' first blast in the fifth inning gave the Reds a commanding 9-1 lead, and his second put Cincinnati up 14-1.
