Report: Mets' Mejia failed drug test during initial PED suspension

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

The 162-game ban handed to New York Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia was a result of a failed drug test during his initial 80-game suspension, according to ESPN's T.J. Quinn.

Mejia had been back with the Mets for three weeks when the league announced Tuesday he tested positive for banned substances Stanozolol and Boldenone. Under terms of the league's drug policy, second-time offenders are subject to a season-long suspension.

The 25-year-old right-hander originally tested positive for Stanozolol on April 11.
