The New York Yankees' quest to add All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel may have hit a roadblock.

After it was reported the Yankees and San Diego Padres were "hammering away" on a possible deal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports announced Friday that talks have broken down between the two clubs, and have not been revisited.

Acquired from the Atlanta Braves in early April, Kimbrel owns a career-high 2.68 ERA in 42 appearances while converting 30 saves and striking out 56 across 40 1/3 innings.

The 27-year-old is owed $24 million over the next two seasons, with a $13-million team option for the 2018 season.
