Nobody told New York Mets manager Terry Collins that his shortstop, Wilmer Flores, had been traded.

The skipper was perplexed Wednesday when Flores entered the dugout with tears in his eyes following a show of support from New York fans, who thought the Venezuelan had been shipped to the Milwaukee Brewers. It turns out, he hadn't been.

"This kid comes off the field tonight, he hears he's traded, he's upset by it and I don't know anything about it," Collins said. "So I went down and said listen, 'I don't know what is going on, but you got a game to play. Lets go play baseball.'"

The deal for Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez was nixed apparently due to New York's concern over the outfielder's hip. Flores received a standing ovation during his eighth-inning at-bat after it was heavily reported he and Zack Wheeler were headed to the Brewers.

Collins didn't appreciate the misinformation that he said was delivered by fans next to the dugout, and the emotional toll it took on Flores.

"You guys think this game's easy to play? Play it with shit like that going on during the game," Collins said. "That's hard for anybody and I feel terrible for Wilmer."

A frustrated Collins acknowledged that trade reports are common this time of year, but that doesn't mean players can simply tune them out.

"It's always part of the game," Collins said of the rumors. "To be politically correct, there's a lot of B.S. out there."

Added Collins, "I got guys in the dugout reporting this thing and nobody's told me a word. These guys, they're susceptible to any of those things that are being talked about."
