Albert Pujols sets MLB record with another 30-HR season

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Albert Pujols didn't earn his nickname "The Machine" for nothing.

The Los Angeles Angels first baseman belted his way into the record books again Wednesday, becoming the only player in MLB history with 13 30-homer seasons in the first 15 years of his career.

Pujols hit the historic home run in the ninth inning of the Angels' 6-3 loss to the Houston Astros. The 35-year-old slugger is now one homer shy of teammate Mike Trout for the major-league lead.

It's the first time since 2012 that Pujols has reached the 30-homer plateau after doing so in each of his first 12 seasons. Wednesday's blast was the 550th of Pujols' career, leaving him five away from tying Manny Ramirez for 14th on the all-time list.
