Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Chris Archer was untouchable through 19 batters on Wednesday.

Archer carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias beat out an infield single to spoil both the perfect game and no-hit bid.

The 27-year-old had struck out 10 batters on just 69 pitches before allowing the hit, but finished the inning trailing 2-1 after an error resulted in a pair of unearned runs. Archer was replaced to start the eighth, after allowing two runs off three hits to go with 11 strikeouts.

Tigers starter Justin Verlander also retired the first 14 batters he faced before allowing a solo home run to Asdrubal Cabrera in the fifth inning.

The Tigers held on for the 2-1 win to hand Archer his eighth loss of the season.
