Tigers 'rebooting,' will field offers for Price, Cespedes

The Detroit Tigers are waving the white flag.

Despite a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, the Tigers have begun calling teams to let them know that they will listen to offers on all their impending free agents, including left-hander David Price, reliever Joakim Soria, and outfielders Yoenis Cespedes and Rajai Davis.

General manager David Dombrowski had been committed to trying to keep his roster intact to try and reach the postseason for a fifth straight season but is now hoping to build off the team's core.

“We're looking at it more as rebooting going into next season," Dombrowski told reporters. "I think our foundation is solid going forward."

Dombrowski should have no shortage of suitors for Price now that he's officially on the market. It was reported earlier Wednesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays are poised to have an all-out bidding war for the five-time All-Star.

Acquired at the deadline last season, Price and the Tigers have been unable to reach an extension this season. In 21 starts, Price is 9-4 with a 2.53 ERA and 138 strikeouts across 146 innings.

Cespedes is enjoying one of the best seasons of his four-year career, hitting .289/.320/.497 with 17 home runs, 28 doubles, and 58 RBIs through 101 games. The 29-year-old was part of a deadline deal last season when the Oakland Athletics shipped him to the Boston Red Sox.
