Jessica Mendoza to replace Curt Schilling on ESPN baseball broadcasts

John David Mercer / US PRESSWIRE

The first woman to work a Major League Baseball game for ESPN will be getting significantly more air time.

Jessica Mendoza, a former United States softball Olympic gold and silver medalist, will replace Curt Schilling in the broadcast booth for the remainder of the network's "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcasts this season.

Schilling was excused from his duties as a color commentator alongside Dan Shulman and John Kruk because of a controversial tweet.

Mendoza first appeared two weeks ago on the network during a Monday night broadcast of a clash between the Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals.
