San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey made an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins, departing with an apparent injury several innings after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask.

In the bottom of the third inning, the 28-year-old was struck in the mask by a foul ball off the bat of Marcell Ozuna and had a lengthy chat on the mound with starter Chris Heston before play resumed.

Though he wasn't immediately lifted from the contest, Posey told Bruce Bochy he felt "off" after being struck in the mask, prompting the manager to replace him behind the plate with Andrew Susac in the bottom of the fifth inning.

"I've been lucky this year; I haven't had any that have really zinged me," Posey told reporters. "This one got me directly on the chin. It's part of it, and you have to be as smart as possible about these things."

Posey, however, passed a concussion test after being removed, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, and will be reevaluated on Thursday.

Posey, who's poised to earn his third career All-Star berth, entered Wednesday's game at Marlins Park hitting .389/.452/.750 with three home runs over his previous 10 contests.
