Unhappy with strike zone, Dodgers' Mattingly, Ellis ejected vs. Cardinals

Both Don Mattingly and A.J. Ellis were forced to watch the final few innings of Friday's series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals from the clubhouse after being ejected by Mike Winters in the seventh inning following separate disputes with the veteran umpire.

Mattingly earned his third ejection of the month after voicing his displeasure over a third-strike call against Andre Ethier with runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, his team trailing, 2-0, at the time.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ellis was booted from the contest after Winter told him his pitch "presentation wasn't good" on a ball-four call to Matt Carpenter, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Their indignation went for naught, however, as the Cardinals secured a 3-0 victory at Busch Stadium behind seven shutout innings from right-hander John Lackey.
