Cardinals' Holliday reaches base for 42nd straight game, ties franchise record

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

Matt Holliday has been the model of consistency at the plate this season.

The St. Louis Cardinals outfielder has now reached base for the 42nd consecutive game - tying a franchise record to begin a season - after his RBI single in the first inning of Tuesday's contest with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Holliday has equaled the mark Albert Pujols' set back in 2008 and entered play hitting .317 with an incredible .433 on-base percentage.

The six-time All-Star will have a chance to break the record Wednesday in the series finale with the D-backs.
