Mets' Harvey to pitch Friday despite dead arm concerns

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets will send their ace to the hill Friday versus the Miami Marlins.

Matt Harvey will take the ball for his scheduled start despite manager Terry Collins speculating that the right-hander may be suffering from dead arm, reports ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Harvey was touched up for a career-high seven runs over four innings in his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he responded well to a bullpen session Tuesday.

The Mets have a scheduled day off Thursday before opening the series with the Marlins, giving Harvey an additional day of rest before the start.

Harvey is 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in nine starts.
