VIDEO: Joey Votto turns the coolest double play known to first basemen
David Kohl / USA TODAY Sports
Joey Votto has a way of making things look so easy.
Everything the Cincinnati Reds first baseman does on a ball diamond looks effortless, despite the fact he's spent countless hours honing his craft.
But this play in particular isn't something coaches teach a first baseman, nor is it common practice for a corner guy. With a runner on first, Votto took a routine ground ball and coasted to first base for the first out.
Instead of making a hard throw to second for the tag play, he kept running through the base, while casually flipping the ball 90 feet for the out in what might be the coolest double play a first baseman has ever turned.
