Bruce Chen retires after 17 MLB seasons: 'I feel blessed and fortunate'

Bruce Chen is calling it a career in the majors.

"Today, I would like to announce my retirement," Chen posted on his Twitter account. "For the last 22yrs I have been doing what I love for a living. I feel blessed and fortunate."

Signed by the Atlanta Braves as an amateur free agent in 1993, the right-hander pitched for 11 different organizations since his major-league debut in 1998 - most notably the Kansas City Royals from 2009-14

Chen made a pair of starts for the Cleveland Indians this season, going 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA before he was designated for assignment last week.

The 37-year-old finishes his 17-season career with an 82-81 record, 4.62 ERA and 1,140 strikeouts over 1,532 innings.
