Athletics' Crisp likely to begin season on DL with elbow injury

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

Coco Crisp has battled health issues all spring and it appears that the oft-injured Oakland Athletics outfielder is destined to start the season on the disabled list with a sore elbow.

After missing the first few days of camp with pinkeye, the 35-year-old departed a game on March 8 with discomfort in his right elbow. Crisp rejoined the A's lineup on March 17 but was subsequently scratched a week later as the pain resurfaced.

Crisp once again attempted to play during an intrasquad game on Tuesday, but manager Bob Melvin confirmed to reporters that he is still dealing with some soreness and a stint on the DL appears likely.

In seven games this spring, the 13-year veteran is hitting .133/.176/.133 with five strikeouts.

Crisp, who has two-years, $22-million remaining on his deal, is coming off a 2014 season that saw him hit a career-low .246 average in 126 games.
