Orioles manager on Davis: 'Chris might be as good a right fielder as we have here'

After losing a pair of key outfielders this offseason, Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter might have an internal option to replace the lost power.

Chris Davis plans to get some reps in right field this spring as the team tries to find a winning combination among Alejandro De Aza, Steve Pearce, Travis Snider and Delmon Young in the corner outfield.

"Chris might be as good a right fielder as we have here," Showalter told Peter Schmuck of The Baltimore Sun. "Chris can play third base. We're going to continue to have pieces to move around without hurting our defense."

Davis does have big league experience in right field, he appeared at the position 30 times in 2012. The slugger has spent the last two seasons primarily at first base, but said he's excited about potentially returning to the outfield.

"I got to play right when we were having a lot of success as a team and I actually played the (2012) playoff games against the Yankees in right field," Davis said. "Getting to be that close to the fans out there when you're kind of isolated and really getting to interact with them was a lot of fun for me. … I had a lot of fun and anything I can do to help this team be successful is what I'm going to do."

Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis, who combined to hit 54 home runs for the Orioles last season, signed deals elsewhere this winter.
