Orioles' Davis to get playing time in RF this spring

Reinhold Matay / USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles are expecting more from Chris Davis in 2015, but not just offensively.

Davis will receive some playing time in right field along with getting his usual reps in at first base this spring, manager Buck Showalter said Friday.

The slugger hasn't played the outfield since 2012, and has only 41 games under his belt (30 in right field and 11 in left field) playing the corner spots.

Alejandro De Aza, Adam Jones and Travis Snider should make up the starting outfield for the O's, but moving Davis to right field on occasion makes sense to get Steve Pearce, who figures to be the everyday designated hitter, some action at first base.

Davis is hoping to rebound from a miserable 2014 campaign, in which he hit only .196 with 26 home runs and 72 RBIs.
