Samardzija's agent: We owe it to the White Sox to consider any extension offer

Jeff Samardzija has yet to throw a pitch for the Chicago White Sox but his agent, Mark Rogers, made it clear that his client would at least be open to discussing a possible extension.

"We have to get to that finish line and cross it before we ultimately find out what your ultimate value is on the open market, which is what free agency is all about," Rogers told MLB Network Radio. "But at the end of the day, we owe it to the White Sox to at least consider anything that they would want to talk about."

Acquired from the Oakland Athletics earlier this offseason, Samardzija, an impending free agent, enters arguably the most important year of his career. With premium pitchers cashing in with record contracts in free agency, another All-Star caliber season would bode well for the right-hander's wallet.

"The truth of the matter is, with the system that we have in baseball, those who get to that sixth year and through it, and survive it, typically get compensated the best," Rogers said.

The 30-year-old's numbers are definitely trending in the right direction. Samardzija posted a career-low 2.99 ERA and 1.065 WHIP last season while registering a career-high 219 2/3 innings.
