Brewers owner, Scott Boras have discussed Francisco Rodriguez

It's no secret the Milwaukee Brewers are searching for a closer, and they could bring back a familiar face to fill the role.

Scott Boras, who represents right-hander Francisco Rodriguez, has been in touch with Brewers owner Mark Attanasio about potentially signing his client.

"Scott always aggressively represents all of his players," Attanasio said Sunday to the Journal Sentinel. "Within one hour of announcing the trade of Yovani Gallardo, he was calling to represent a number of his players with us."

K-Rod converted 44 of his 49 save opportunities for the Brewers a year ago, so Attanasio knows first hand what the veteran closer is capable of. But general manager Doug Melvin is still exploring other options.

"We're looking at anyone who is available," added Attanasio. "Doug (Melvin) is looking at any number of players and combinations of players that would fit our roster. Frankie had an 89 percent save percentage and the guy has never been on the disabled list. We know he likes Milwaukee."

Melvin has explored the possibility of acquiring Jonathan Papelbon from the Philadelphia Phillies. Trade talks have cooled between the clubs over the weekend, however. Other free-agent options include Rafael Soriano or Casey Janssen.
