Rafael Furcal to miss winter league playoffs after tearing hamstring

The injury problems refuse to relent for veteran infielder Rafael Furcal, who will be forced to miss the Dominican Winter League playoffs after tearing his hamstring yet again, according  Dionisio Soldevila of ESPN Deportes.

The 37-year-old veteran has battled recurrent hamstring problems throughout his career, spending 183 days on the disabled list in 2014 due to a torn left hamstring. He missed nearly a month during the 2010 campaign due to soreness in his right hamstring and has missed games periodically in recent years due to leg issues.

Furcal, a free agent who appeared in just nine games with the Miami Marlins last season, missed the entire 2013 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery and may be forced to settle for a minor-league deal this winter.
