Mets' Granderson to maintain approach as fences come in at Citi Field
Curtis Granderson, a veteran outfielder whose livelihood revolves largely around his ability to knock the ball out of the park, didn't exactly thrive in the spacious confines of Citi Field last season, his first with the New York Mets.
The 33-year-old who reached the 40-homer plateau in both 2011 and 2012 with the New York Yankees managed just 20 home runs over 155 games last season while posting a .161 isolated power, his worst mark in a decade.
Despite watching his power dwindle and his overall offensive value wane accordingly, Granderson intends to maintain the same approach at the plate next season when the outfield fences are brought in at Citi Field.
“There’ll be no adjustments because of the dimensions,” Granderson told Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News.
Though Granderson watched a number of deep fly balls fall get caught in front of the right-field wall last season, the three-time All-Star still managed a .930 OPS on balls hit to his pull-side and should reap the benefits of a cozier stadium in 2015.
