Moss on A's acquisitions: 'It could mean someone else gets moved'

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Moss isn't pretending to be oblivious to the fact that his Oakland Athletics acquired a pair of players that play the position he spent 178 games at the past two seasons.

“The whole world noticed,” Moss told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. “You never know; the front office likes to mix up. I’m trying not to let anything surprise me, because I don’t want to be blindsided. Obviously, I love playing in Oakland, but when this happened, I knew it could mean someone else gets moved.”

Oakland inked Billy Butler to a three-year, $30 million deal earlier this month with the expectation that he will see some time at first base against left-handers while also DH'ing. Four days later, the A's traded for left-handed hitter Ike Davis for a likely platoon at first.

Moss, who's recovering from offseason hip surgery, is expected to spend the majority of the 2015 season in what could be a crowded A's outfield. Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick, Craig Gentry and Sam Fuld are all expected to return, though Moss is the best player offensively of the five. He appeared in 84 games in the outfield in 2014.

The 31-year-old slashed .234/.334/.438 with 25 home runs and 81 RBIs in 147 games last season and is expected to make $7.1 million at salary arbitration, according to MLB Trade Rumors
