White Sox, LaRoche finalize 2-year, $25-million deal

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox finalized their second significant acquisition of the offseason Tuesday afternoon, announcing a two-year, $25-million deal with veteran first baseman Adam LaRoche.

LaRoche, who turned 35 earlier this month, recently completed a successful four-year stint with the Washington Nationals, earning both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award during his tenure with the club.

The 35-year-old enjoyed another strong season at the plate in 2014, hitting .259/.362/.455 (124 OPS+) with 26 home runs over 140 games.

LaRoche is expected to split time between first base and designated hitter with Jose Abreu, the American League's reigning Rookie of the Year. An 11-year veteran, LaRoche is also expected to assume a leadership role in the absence of Paul Konerko, who retired following the 2014 campaign.
