Rockies trade right-hander Juan Nicasio to Dodgers

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-hander Juan Nicasio from the Colorado Rockies on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced

Ryan Jackson was designated for assignment by Los Angeles to make room for Nicasio on the team's 40-man roster.

Nicasio struggled over parts of four seasons in Colorado, compiling a 5.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 88 appearances (69 starts). But he did throw better once transitioning into a relief role with the Rockies in August.

The 28-year-old posted a 3.48 ERA in 19 relief appearances, experiencing an uptick in his strikeout rate and velocity. While his days as a starter could be over, Nicasio is capable of providing the Dodgers with an intriguing power arm out of the bullpen.

Nicasio, who was designated for assignment by the Rockies last week, is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to make $2.4 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Jackson, 26, has played a handful of games in the majors and has compiled a career .268/.338/.363 batting line in the minor leagues.
