Report: Blue Jays to exercise Happ's $6.7-million option for 2015

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays aren't prepared to let J.A. Happ hit free agency just yet, as the club is reportedly set to exercise the left-hander's $6.7-million team option for 2015, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Happ opened the season on the disabled list but ultimately logged 158 innings for the Blue Jays over 26 starts and four relief appearances. The 32-year-old crafted a 4.22 ERA, his lowest since 2010, while managing a career-best 2.61 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Happ, a third-round pick in 2004, will likely be penciled into Toronto's tentative rotation for next season, but the club's wealth of talented pitching prospects could compel general manager Alex Anthopoulos to trade Happ this winter.
