Royals' Ned Yost undergoes minor skin cancer surgery on nose

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost underwent a procedure Friday to remove a cancerous cell from his nose.

Yost said doctors in Kansas City performed the minor surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma, a skin cancer condition caused by prolonged exposure to sun.

"I had a scab on my nose all summer long and that was a basal cell," Yost told MLB.com. "They wanted to take it out at the All-Star break and I said no. So they got it out today."

The 60-year-old skipper said the surgery was successful and he's feeling good. He added: "Absolutely nothing to worry about."

Yost elected to have the procedure done in Kansas City before heading back to Georgia for the winter.

"I'll be using a lot of sunscreen next spring," he said.
