Colby Lewis unable to reach deal with Rangers, will test free agency

Colby Lewis will test free agency after failing to work out a new deal with the Texas Rangers, general manager Jon Daniels told Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Friday.

Lewis missed the entire 2013 season and was limited to just 16 starts one year earlier due to persistent elbow and hip problems, but the 35-year-old managed to avoid injury in 2014, leading the Rangers with 170 1/3 innings pitched.

Though Lewis evaded the disabled list last season, he struggled to replicate his past success, managing a 5.18 ERA (75 ERA+) with a 1.52 WHIP over 29 starts.
