Report: Angels likely to trade Kendrick or Freese this offseason

Reuters

The Los Angeles Angels are likely to trade either second baseman Howie Kendrick or third baseman David Freese this winter to improve their pitching staff, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Kendrick, the club's longest-tenured player, remains under contract for just one more season and could be replaced internally by either Grant Green or Gordon Beckham. The 31-year-old enjoyed another solid campaign in 2014, hitting .293/.347/.397 (115 OPS+) with seven home runs while finishing sixth among second basemen with 4.6 wins above replacement.

Freese, an All-Star in 2012, is also poised to become a free agent after the upcoming season. The former ninth-round pick hit .260/.321/.383 (103 OPS+) with 10 home runs over 134 games last season, his first with the Angels.
