Maddux, Magadan return on Rangers coaching staff
ARLINGTON, Texas - Pitching coach Mike Maddux and hitting coach Dave Magadan will remain on the Texas Rangers' coaching staff with new manager Jeff Banister.
While bullpen coach Andy Hawkins and assistant hitting coach Bobby Jones also return, the Rangers said Friday that Triple-A manager Steve Buechele will be Banister's bench coach.
Buechele replaces Tim Bogar, the bench coach who was 14-8 as interim manager at the end of the season after Ron Washington resigned. Bogar had been one of three finalists for the managerial job before Banister was hired two weeks ago.
New first base coach Hector Ortiz and major league field coordinator Jayce Tingler were promoted from within the Texas organization.
The Rangers have not yet named a new third base coach after Gary Pettis left to join the Houston Astros.
