The Boston Red Sox declined their $4-million club option on left-handed reliever Craig Breslow on Friday.
Breslow, who struggled in 2014, posting a 5.96 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 54 1/3 innings, acknowledged last week that he didn't expect the Red Sox to pick up his option based on his performance.
With the exception of last season, the 34-year-old has proved to be an effective piece out of the bullpen. In three seasons prior to 2014, Breslow managed a 2.76 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 123 innings.
