Report: Josh Willingham undecided about retirement

Though Josh Willingham appeared poised for retirement several weeks ago, the 35-year-old designated hitter seems willing to at least explore his options as a free agent this offseason, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Willingham insisted in September he had not yet made a decision about his future, but one source told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the 11-year veteran had told those close to him that he would definitely retire at the end of the season.

Willingham, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals in the final season of a three-year, $21-million deal,  hit .215/.346/.397 (109 OPS+) with 14 home runs in 92 games in 2014. The former 17th-round pick also posted an .840 on-base plus slugging in 108 plate appearances against left-handed pitching.
