Jerry Lai / USA TODAY Sports

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Paul Konerko and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins have been named the co-winners of the the Roberto Clemente Award.

The award is given annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement.

It's the first time two players have shared the award.

Konerko, who just wrapped up his final big league season, is the first White Sox player to win the award, while Rollins is the third Phillies player to earn the honor (Greg Luzkinski 1978 and Garry Maddox 1986 are the others).

Carlos Beltran won the award in 2013.
