Royals tie MLB postseason record with 7th relief win

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Royals' dominant bullpen has been historically good this postseason.

Flamethrower Kelvin Herrera earned the victory in Kansas City's 7-2 Game 2 win over the San Francisco Giants to help his team join the record books. The victory was the Royals' seventh relief win of the playoffs, tying the 2003 Florida Marlins for the most in a single postseason.

Kansas City relievers have combined to go 7-0 with a 1.81 ERA over 44 2/3 postseason innings.

The three-headed monster of Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland collectively sport a 0.92 ERA and have struck out 36 in 29 1/3 frames.

It was those three that came up big for the Royals in Game 2, working 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief after starter Yordano Ventura exited the contest.

Herrera came in for Ventura in the sixth and worked out of a jam with two runners on. He was throwing his typical gas.
