Game 1 at Kauffman Stadium turned out to be no contest, as Madison Bumgarner dominated the Kansas City Royals to propel the San Francisco Giants to a 7-1 victory.

The Giants wasted no time jumping on James Shields and the Royals, putting three runs across the board in the first inning to take an early lead.

Pablo Sandoval drove in one run with a double to right field, but the Royals executed a perfect relay to nail an aggressive Buster Posey at the plate to limit the damage. Posey tried to score from first base on the play.

Hunter Pence got that run right back when he jumped all over a 3-2 fastball from Shields and drove it over the fence in center for a two-run blast.

Shields wasn't the only Royal who had a rough game. Nori Aoki had some trouble in right field, getting eaten up on a play in the seventh inning, allowing Joe Panik to cash a run on a triple to put San Francisco ahead 7-0.

The Royals finally showed some signs of life in the seventh inning. Salvador Perez ended Bumgarner's shutout bid by smacking a solo homer to left field to make it a 7-1 game. The homer also snapped Bumgarner's Major League Baseball record of throwing 32 2/3 consecutive scoreless postseason innings on the road.

Slick-fielding Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford showed off his defensive skills in the bottom half of the seventh when he ranged over 100 feet into the outfield to snag an Omar Infante popup to shallow center.
