Royals' Guthrie to start Game 3 of World Series; Vargas gets the ball Game 4

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost announced his rotation Tuesday for when the World Series shifts to San Francisco.

Royals right-hander Jeremy Guthrie and lefty Jason Vargas will start Game 3 and 4, respectively. Yost previously tabbed hard-throwing rookie Yordano Ventura to start Game 2 against Giants veteran right-hander Jake Peavy.

Guthrie soaked up five quality innings in his lone postseason outing against the Baltimore in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, limiting the Orioles to one run in the Royals' 2-1 win. His second career playoff start comes opposite Giants right-hander Tim Hudson, who is also making his World Series debut.

GAME 3 & 4 STARTERS REG. SEASON ERA IP SO PLAYOFF ERA
Jeremy Guthrie 4.13 202.2 124 1.80
Tim Hudson 3.57 189.1 120 3.29
Jason Vargas 3.71 187.0 128 2.38
Ryan Vogelsong 4.00 184.2 151 5.19

Vargas, meanwhile, will look to build upon his series-clinching victory in the Royals' four-game ALCS sweep. The 31-year-old lefty tossed 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts in Game 4.

The Giants will counter with Ryan Vogelsong, who has pitched to mixed results in two postseason outings. The series moves to AT&T Park on Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET.
