Pirates' Volquez: 'We didn't play the way we wanted and we let the city down a little bit'
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Edinson Volquez was decidedly despondent after his shaky performance in Wednesday's 8-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants in the National League wild-card game.

Volquez held the Giants scoreless through the first three innings, but things unraveled in the fourth when the 31-year-old surrendered a grand slam to shortstop Brandon Crawford.
Volquez said he tried to bounce the curve to Crawford. "Just one pitch that changed the whole game."

Volquez, an impending free agent, was nevertheless buoyed by fans at PNC Park on Wednesday, though the mood darkened considerably after Crawford's slam.
Volquez thanked #Pirates fans, said he enjoyed the atmosphere. "It made me feel good."
