Hamilton's status for ALDS opener uncertain

Ailing Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton underwent a full workout of baseball activities at Angel Stadium on Monday, according to the Orange County Register.

But Hamilton, who is dealing with tightness in his rib cage and has suffered through multiple upper-body injuries this month, still has to make further progress before being cleared to play Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Thursday.

Hamilton ran, threw and took batting practice Monday, but will have to face live pitching in a simulated setting to determine if he's physically capable of playing in a game situation.

"The pain isn't the issue, it's the spasm part of it," Hamilton told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. "As long as I can play and not spasm, I’ll be fine. That means I have to get after it the next couple of days, push it a little bit, because I can’t baby it, then get in the game Thursday and it happens."

Hamilton is expected to go through similar workouts Tuesday and Wednesday before a decision is made about his availability for the ALDS.
