2006 - Bonds breaks Aaron's NL home run record

San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds breaks Hank Aaron's National League all-time home run record with a third-inning blast off Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Chris Capuano.

Bonds's solo shot is his 26th of the season and 734th of his career, moving him within 21 of Aaron's all-time mark.

The Giants outfielder is held homerless the rest of the year, but clubs 28 the following season to eclipse Aaron's career record.

1988 - Canseco is baseball's 1st 40-40 man

Oakland Athletics outfielder Jose Canseco becomes the first player to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in a season after swiping second in the fifth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Canseco's second steal of the game is his 40th and the Athletics slugger also adds his 41st home run in the contest. The eventual American League MVP finishes the game 3-for-5 with three runs batted in.

1979 - Brock sets all-time stolen base record

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lou Brock steals the final base of his career, padding his all-time record with a fifth-inning swipe off New York Mets right-hander Juan Berenguer.

It's the 938th career stolen base of Brock's career, a mark that stands up as the highest of all time until Rickey Henderson breaks it 12 years later.

The speed outfielder finishes the season with 21 stolen bases, his 17th year recording 20 or more steals.
