Report: Braves' elimination from playoff contention likely to spark front office changes

Brad Barr / USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves were eliminated from playoff contention with an 10-2 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, a result that is not sitting well with team management, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

General manager Frank Wren's position "could be in jeopardy" according to Heyman's sources, but "one or two other front-office changes" may also be made. The Braves (76-79) could finish under .500 for the first time since 2008, when they were 72-90 under Wren as GM in his first year in the position.

Atlanta was the model of success for much of the 1990s and early 2000s, reeling off 11 consecutive division titles, but has just one to its credit since Wren took over in Oct. 2007, that coming in 2013.

The Braves were 72-65 and in playoff contention on Aug. 31 but a 4-14 September quickly dropped them out of the National League wild-card race .

Atlanta has not fired a manager or GM since 1990.
