Reds' Chapman struck by line drive: Tests indicate fractures above his left eye and nose

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman will spend Wednesday night in hospital after being hit in the face by a line drive, the Reds announced.

Chapman will undergo more tests at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was transferred.

He was hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Salvador Perez on Wednesday night, in the sixth inning of a Cactus League game between the Reds and Royals. It was a 99 miles per hour fastball Chapman threw to Perez, which came back at the lefty even faster.

Chapman was attended to by medical personnel and carted off the field. The game was suspended after the frightening incident:

Chapman's teammate Brandon Phillips tweeted some encouraging news from the hospital Wednesday night:

Reds manager Bryan Price will address the media about Chapman's health on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET (9 a.m. PT). You can read more about the incident in the storyline below.
