Angels' Mike Trout on plate approach this year: 'I'm going to be up there hacking'

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout is a two-time Silver Slugger, but he plans on changing his approach at the plate in 2014 in an attempt to become even more productive with the stick.

"I think the biggest thing for me, is being aggressive early," Trout said via MLB.com. "A lot of counts last year, I'd be taking, seeing pitches. But I'm going to be aggressive this year. Instead of just flipping one over for strike one, or 2-0 strike one, I'm going to be up there hacking. I'm going to be up there swinging."

Trout is batting an impressive .433 this spring and has only struck out four times in 32 at-bats; evidence cutting down on strikeouts will lead to higher production.

Trout has struck out 275 times over the last two seasons - tied for 23rd in the bigs over that span. The slugger also jumped on the first pitch just 35 times in 2013, which was less than 215 of his peers.

The adjustment can only mean more production for Trout, who is the unanimous No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts because of his ability to hit for average, power and steal bases.

Trout hit .323 with 27 home runs and 97 RBIs while stealing 33 bags in 157 games for the Angels last season.
