Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington had his contract extended through the 2015 season, the club announced on Monday afternoon.

Washington was only under contract through the 2014 season before his deal was extended, so he would have been managing as a lame duck. He's been with the club since the 2007 season, and the Rangers have a 611-524 with "Wash" at the helm.

General manager Jon Daniels said:

He’s everything you look for in a leader. At the end of the day, players take on the personality of the manager and he’s got the a positive attitude that we are going to do things the right way and get things done.

The Rangers have won 90 games or more in each of the last four seasons, and went to the World Series in both 2010 and 2011.

Two American League pennants are nothing to sneeze at, but the Rangers want a World Series title, and had another busy offseason in pursuit of October glory. Washington's the man in Arlington, until he's not.
