The Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed Emilio Bonifacio, "the most complicated man in baseball," tweets Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

It's a minor-league deal, tweets ESPN's Jessie Rogers.

Bonifacio became a free agent on Wednesday, after the Kansas City Royals put him through release waivers, and he went unclaimed.

But Bonifacio, 28, is wanted, after all. The Orioles made a play for him, too, tweets Orioles beat writer Roch Kubatko, but it looks as though the Cubs have won out for Bonifacio's services. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman adds that Bonifacio had major-league deals on the table, but chose the Cubs.

Bonifacio spent time with the Blue Jays and Royals in 2013. He struggled mightily in Toronto, posting a 55 wRC+ in 94 games. He stole 12 bases in 18 attempts. He played his best defense at second base. And this was the guy who was supposed to be the dark horse in the mega Toronto-Miami trade last winter.

He was traded to the Royals in August for a player to be named later or cash, and the change of scenery did him well. Bonifacio had a 96 wRC+ in 42 games with Kansas City, and stole 16 bases in 18 attempts.
