The Orioles have signed 30-year-old right-handed pitcher Evan Meek to a minor-league deal, reports MASN's Roch Kubatko. He'll be at spring training with the big club, and will be the Orioles' 31st pitcher in camp.

Kubatko writes:

Meek is 7-7 with a 3.34 ERA in 156 major league relief appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2008-2012.

The Texas Rangers signed Meek as a free agent on Dec. 6, 2012, and he went 6-9 with a 4.50 ERA in 33 games, including 15 starts, with Triple-A Round Rock. He didn't pitch in the majors last season.

Right-handers are batting .214 against Meeks in the majors, and left-handers are batting .229.

The Orioles have been looking for pitching for most of the winter, and Meek's signing may not signal their search is over. Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette told Grantland's Jonah Keri that he "intends to sign a starting pitcher to augment the rotation." Meek isn't that guy, so the Orioles may still have a move - a big move - left in them. They've let it be known they're interested in A.J. Burnett, and have been tied in rumors to Bronson Arroyo, too.

Meeks is a depth signing. He has a career 84 ERA- (remember, anything less than 100 is better than league average) in 172 2/3 big-league innings. There are worse guys to take a flier on.
